Where do I begin. As I’m sure you’ll all be aware, us artists have to eat, and to do that we have to sell our work occasionally. I struggle generally with any sort of self promotion, as I’m a complete dinosaur, the Internet and social media do not come naturally to me. What my kids can do with their smartphones in 30 seconds, will take me an hour of sitting at my desk scratching my head. Because of this I spent an extended amount of time staring at this image on the computer screen wondering what to type into social media. I actually got very teary. Why? I hear you ask. Well, it’s like this….this painting started off as a companion piece for another painting called ‘Pawtrait’. As work on the painting progressed, I realised that the cat in the painting looked a lot like our old cat Thomas. Thomas was a lovely little thing, chilled out, very loving, and almost human like in his personality. Unfortunately he had a long term health condition, which didn’t physically affect him for many years, but resulted in him suddenly becoming very ill and having to be put to sleep. It was a shock to us all, despite knowing he was poorly. I smiled once I realised how similar to Thomas the cat in my painting looked, but I have to admit to crying a little as I typed onscreen “I miss you little guy!”.
This one’s for Thomas, and it’s called ‘Purrtrait’.
